Uhtred argues that Edward does not have the qualities to bring both English and Danes under one roof, and that the cause of a single kingdome of Englad would wait for Edward's descendant, ie Prince Aethelstan.

RELATED:

Unaware of Aethelhelm's treacherous intentions, Bennedict takes Prince Aelfweard to Bebbanburg castle. Some time later, Aelfwynn is also brought here, in preparations for marriage to Constantin.

Constantin is getting bold with the plan to attack Mercia – Wessex, so he lets his allies silently mobilizes their troops close to the border. However, he remains open to the possibility of negotiating to force Edward to make concessions.

Edward is now happy with his new queen, Eadgifu, who is pregnant, and he is softer than before. He is still stationed at Eofowic and has not yet moved to Winchester as planned.

Eliza Butterworth  Aelswith

Mother Queen Aelswith tries to convince Edward to send scouts to find Aelfwynn, but Edward hesitates. So, she turns to Uhtred for help.

Uhtred initially rejected Aelswith's request because he wanted to focus on caring for his two children who were suffering from painful life events. However, after hearing from Bennedict that Aethelhelm, Aelfweard and Aelfwynn are all in Bebbanburg, Uhtred pops up the idea that an early assault on Bebbanburg would foil Constantin's plot.

However, Edward advocates peace: he wanted to negotiate with Constantin to hand over half of the Kingdom of Northumbia to Constantin, allowing Aelfwynn to marry Constantin; In return, Constantin would have to pledge peace and hand over Aethelhelm.

Uhtred wants to go with his comrades, including Prince Aethelstan, for an attack on Bebbanburg, but the "ideologically isolated" Edward strongly forbids that.
