Velociraptor Vs Pterosaur

In the evening, the Pterosaurs gather at cliffs of a canyon, below which is a river to sleep. A safe place – almost no natural enemies.

But not quite like that. There are also feathered Velociraptors that can move flexibly on complex terrains, their tails help them balance, their bodies are light, their limbs are good at climbing and they often hunt in team.

Velociraptor can become sudden predators of small Pterosaurs.

Tyrannosaurus Rex's Lakeside Love

An aging male T-Rex has just defeated a Triceratops. He won and is about to have a hearty meal, but at the cost of severe wounds, with the risk of infection.

The life of endless hunting has left many scars and injuries on his body, most notably a chopped end of his tail.

Another T-Rex suddenly appear. A fight for territorial claim may come. But luckily it is a female, and she could be either an enemy or a mate.

The T-Rex's scarred body is a testament to his survivability, and that's what appeals to the female T-Rex. And the love affair by the lake begins with 15 eggs laid and a generation of T-Rex to be born by this freshwater area.

Deinocheirus

In the floodplains of Central Asia, Deinocheirus are even taller than T-Rex, developing a giant duck snout to specialize in eating aquatic plants.

Deinocheirus' eating is also supported by giant, curved claws that help it dig and dredge under the water.

In turn, Deinocheirus is food for blood-sucking flies, and it relies on tree trunks to scrub and get rid of the parasites. In addition, the over 20 tons of manure per year it produces is an invaluable source of fertilizer for the surrounding area.

Quetzalcoatlus' nest and eggs

In a swamp in South Africa, a female Quetzalcoatlus, with a wingspan of 30 meters, came alone to lay eggs. This place does not have the food she needs, but it is an ideal environment for the future chicks. In addition, the moist soil of the swamp will help prevent soft-shelled eggs from drying out.

The process of laying eggs of Quetzalcoatlus is also very arduous and laborious: an egg of about 1kg every few days, it can take several weeks, both laying and watching, for a whole litter of about 12 eggs.

After the spawn, she camouflages the nest and flies off in search of food because the place doesn't provide what she needs.

Another female Quetzalcoatlus, older, suddenly appear here. She comes for the same purpose of laying eggs. She discovers the nest of young Quetzalcoatlus and begin to destroy it, including eating some eggs.

The younger one returns just in time or on time and the battle between the two expectant mothers begins. The nest owner manages to repell the invader and saboteur, but her nest now has only 3 intact eggs left.

Prehistoric Planet Episode 2: Dinosaurs Mating, Fighting and Journeying in Deserts

Episode 2 of the Prehistoric Planet series on Apple TV+ explores the life of dinosaurs in the deserts: Dreadnoughtus (Titanosaurs), Barsboldia, Barbaridactylus (Pterosaur), Secernosaurus.

Dreadnoughtus (Titanosaurs)

The dinosaurs 25 meters (85 feet) long and weighing 40 tons gather in a desert in South America for the mating season and … fighting.

Females watch the males display their muscular strength and beauty, often with chains of bubbles popping up and down along their endless necks.

The rivalry among the males sometimes leads to skirmishes: they stab each other with dagger-like spikes on each thumb, claw at their opponent's neck with their teeth, or use their necks to deliver neck-on-neck knockout blows.

The cost of failure and defeat, for some of them, is very high, sometimes their own lives.

Barsboldia

They are experts at long-distance migrations without water for an amazing amount of time.

When there is no water in the area, they make journeys to the oases.

Crest Barbaridactylus (Pterosaur)

This species has a wingspan of about 5 meters (17 feet) and males are characterized by two large crests on their heads which display their strength and charm to their mates.

Every year, they gather on top of isolated plateaus for the mating season. The mighty males will stand guard over their territory and harem, chasing away any eager young males.

However, there are young males who have a special tactic: they do not develop a crest on their head, and their shape is slim like that of the female. They infiltrates the lord's harem, making the lord think he was a female.

He is even attractive and feminine enough to make the lord approach him for love. But he knows how to deny him.

When the lord is distracted, he will start flirting with the harems. Female Barbaridactylus sometimes prefer slim, stealthy and sneaky  males, and the theory is that the more fathers their offspring have, the better and more diverse for the future generations. That's all!

Secernosaurus

In a gypsum desert in South America, when the plant resources are exhausted, these small dinosaurs begin their journey to the coasts.

Experienced seniors will lead the pack at night, navigating by the night sky (presumably based on constellations), and their exceptional hearing can pick up low sound from far away – the sound of waves crashing against the shore.

In the coastal regions, the fog that forms where the dunes and the ocean meet foster a coastal paradise rich for Secernosaurus, of course just for a certain time but maybe long enough for the young to grow up.

The episode also features a few short segments of Tarbosaurus (the desert version of the T-Rex) appearing to be scavengers; feathered Velociraptor hunting in pack; lonely Mononykus also having feathers, and a highly developed sense of smell, a long and flexible tongue to catch termites and insects.

Prehistoric Planet Episode 1: Dinosaurs by the Coasts

Tyrannosaurus Rex

Despite their fierce appearance, the male T-Rex can be very gentle lovers and very caring fathers.

The episode explores the journey of a T-Rex taking its young cubs across a sea to reach an island rich in food. With their hollow bones and powerful hind limbs, T-Rex are also excellent swimmers.

Pterosaur

Besides raising their hatchlings, Pterosaur also has another tactic of laying eggs and just ignore them.

Pterosaur eggs are leathery and can easily dry out, so they need to be covered. Pterosaurs often lay their eggs at the foot of bare rocks in the sea to avoid natural enemies, under piles of seaweed and … just leave.

Newly hatched Pterosaurs must instinctively survive on their own. They will try to crawl up the cliffs and make their first adventurous flight to the land, ideally the forest.

If lucky enough to fall into a forest, they will live here for about 5 years until they are matured enough to join adults in hunting trips at sea.

Tuarangisaurs

Tuarangisaur are the ocean giant about 9 meters (30 feet) long that live offshore, but at certain times they gather in a bay to mate and… eat stones.

They need round, smooth pebbles, usually smoothed under waterfalls, to crush undigested food in the stomach.

In the Tuarangisaur species, there is a close bond between the mother and the young.

Mosasaurs

The episode explores a fight for territory between two Mosasaurs, one young and one old.

The old Mosasaurs uses the advantage of weight and breathing tatics to drag the young Mosasaurs into the depths of the sea, causing it to suffocate.

Set four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 2018, genetically modified dinosaurs are freed and live freely not only on the US mainland but have spread across the globe. They begin to breed and grow at an amazing rate.

On the DinoTracker website, the whereabouts of dinosaurs are marked with red dots (high aggression), or green ones (low aggression). Clicking on the location, viewers will see videos, images documenting their sighting.

Viewers can look up more by clicking Learn More to know basic information about the specific dinosaurs such as their size, diet, do-and-don't when interacting with them ...

This website is operated by the fantasy Department of Prehistoric Wildlife (DPW). It is introduced as a global organization that publishes up-to-date reports on dinosaur encounters, user-submitted sightings, and vital information, to facilitate the co-existence of humans and dinosaurs on our planet. Formed in 2019, the DPW works with leading scientists, conservationists, and paleo-veterinarians around the world to ensure the protection of our human and prehistoric population.

Similarly, in the marketing campaign for the movie Godzilla Vs Kong 2021, Warner Bros Pictures also released an interactive website called Monarch Sciences, on which users can look up the locations of monsters discovered throughout the world.
