King Viserys organize a great hunt to celebrate the second birthday of his son Aagon (named after the family's ancestor). Rhaenyra fells abandoned by the king as most people and the king care more for her brother, and there are spreading rumors that she would have to cede the throne to her younger brother.

Her relationship with Viserys is further fractured when the king persuades her to marry to strengthen the position of the House, and the one who makes wed proposals is the arrogant Lord Jason Lannister of Casterly Rock.

The Right Hand Otto Hightowers persuades his daughter, Queen Alicent, to orient the king to choose Aegon as his future heir, in order to increase the prestige of the Hightowers.

At Stepstone, Lord Corlys and Prince Daemon tried to defeat Craghas Drahar and the pirates without support from the Crown. Craghas Drahar's strengths are caves and powerful archers that can neutralize dragon attacks. Viserys proves to be an incompetent king, insisting on remaining indifferent about the situation in the south of the Kingdom.

Vaemond Velaryon - Lord Corlys' brother secretly sends a letter to the King asking for reinforcements. Convinced by Alient, Viserys decides to send aids. However, this makes Daemon Targaryen feel his pride hurt and decides to storm the enemy's headquarter alone to open the bloodline for the Velaryon's attacks.

With Daemon paving the way, House Velaryon's forces fight an uphill battle against the warriors of the Triarchy. They are aided by Corlys' son Laenor Velaryon on the dragon Seasmoke.

Daemon finally kills Crabfeeder.
