Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths 2024

DC & Warner Bros' three-part Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths animated series starts airing  from early 2024, following the events of 2020's Apokolips War, and John Constantine in the House of Mystery 2022. The show depicts a Multiverse reality in which hundreds of Earths exist in parallel; each Earth has superheroes with the same name, same abilities, but somewhat of different personalities and fates. Upon learning about the existence of the Multiverse, the heroes seek to connect with each other; but that is also the time when they face the truth that the infinite Earths would inevitably perish.

What If (8): The Age of Ultron Prevailed? 🎥

Invincible Ultron with 6 Infinity Stones

Thanos appears on Earth to find the Mind Stone in order to complete the Infinity Gauntlet, but Ultron kills him instantly and takes away the 5 Infinity Stones, thus gaining control of all 6. Thanks to the 6 powerful stones inlaid on his forehead and chest, Ultron has unparalleled strength, using them to create a giant robot army and destroy all life across the universe.

Captain Marvel Carol Danvers, Clint Barton, and Black Widow Natasha Romanoff are the sole survivors on Earth. Danvers fights Ultron but eventually dies at his hands. Meanwhile, Barton and Romanoff find a copy of Arnim Zola's consciousness and attempt to bring it into Ultron's mind to destroy him. Barton sacrifices himself to let Romanoff and Zola, now in the body of a robot, escape from Ultron.

The upload failed because Ultron's main body was no longer in their universe.

The Watcher vs Ultron

Ultron discovers the existence of the multiverse and attacks The Watcher. They fight across the multiverse until Ultron has the upper hand and The Watcher is forced to flee. Ultron stands in The Watcher's place and now can observe the entire multiverse happenings.

The Watcher reluctantly asked the Ultimate Strange for help.

This special episode of the series shows the connection of the 3 Universes: in addition to the current universe is the universe of Strange the Supreme which was completely destroyed due to his undoing the Absolute Point in Episode 4, and the other universe where Thor meets Jane in Episode 7 and they confront Ultron in the final seconds of the episode.

And this is also the first time The Watcher has been forced to abandon its "non-interference" principle.

What If (7): Thor Were a Playboy? 🎥

In Episode 7 “What If… Thor Were Just A Child?”, the nexus event is that the young Loki was returned by Odin to his homeland of Frost Giant instead of being raised with Thor. This fosters Thor to grow up with a rose-filled childhood without the competition and destructiveness by Loki. Thor finally becomes a playboy, a party guy and a "spoiled" young man in the eyes of his mother Queen Frigga and God Heimdall.

Thor and the Flock

The playboy Thor seems to have spread the temper of partying, drinking, and dancing across the galaxy and has organized a huge party that most of the Nine Realms VIPs (including the Guardians) join, like the Grandmaster , Nebula, Drax…

While Odin is sleeping, hiding from Frigga, Thor and his gang land on Earth and quickly turn many countries into a great discotheque. The first place to hang out for Thor is Las Vegas, and the entertainment atmosphere quickly spread like the Covid epidemic. It sounds innocuous, but the many mischiefs caused by Thor and his gangs have caused considerable havoc across the earth.

Thor vs Captain Marvel

SHIELD decides to intervene and summon Captain Marvel to drive Thor away from Earth. Much of the episode depicts the battles between Captain Marvel and Thor at most of the wonders of Earth and out into space. Captain Marvel doesn't want to unleash her full power for fear of fracturing the Earth, so Thor seems to have the upper hand.

The positive side of the game is that Thor meets Jane Foster and the two quickly fell in love. In fact, Jane Foster is the one who saves Thor from SHIELD's plot to attack him with nuclear weapons in a remote area, by contacting Frigga to let her come down to Earth to correct her playing son.

The Cultural Exchange and the Appearance of Ultron

When Thor learns that his angry mother is coming to Earth, Thor must find a way to fix the mess he caused, and turn it into a "cultural exchange".

When the romance blossoms between Jane and Thor, a portal opens and the spoilers appeared: Infinity Ultron and his army of robots, and importantly, Ultron has all 6 Infinity Stones. We wait and are curious to know if this Ultron voice actor will be James Spader or Paul Bettany (Vision).

Another surprise is that Darcy Lewis (who we met most recently in the Wandavision series) and Howard the Duck… are married, and Darcy is called Mrs. The Duck!!!??? - WTF????!!!!.

What If (6): Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark in Afghanistan? 🎥

In the Episode 6 “What If… Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?”, the nexus-turning event is Killmonger as a Seal Commando of the US Navy rescues Tony Stark from the Ten Rings in Afghanistan, gaining Tony's trust to plot a revenge on Wakanda.

Killmonger rescues Tony to win his trust

The Killmonger character is T'Challa's cousin and has previously only appeared in Black Panther settings rather than in the broader MCU universe. This time, Killmonger has upset the order of the whole MCU: make an Iron Man forever "unborn", kill T'Challa to become the villainous Black Panther, and trigger the war between the United States and Wakanda.

In the main timeline, Tony was kidnapped in Afghanistan, imprisoned in a cave, and from there he was driven to build a super-soldier robot that paved the way for him to become Iron Man. In this  time alternative, Seal Ranger Erik Stevens, codenamed Killmonger, infiltrates the Ten Rings and discovers their plan to capture Tony.

He shows up at the right time and Tony is rescued to continue a comfortable life and has been pushed away from his fate as an Avengers and finally falls into Killmonger's sophisticated trap.

The death of T'Challa

Killmonger gains more credibility by revealing (slandering) Obadiah Stane as part of a kidnapping plot; that leads Tony to promote Killmonger to the position of Chief Security Officer and invest in an old idea of Killmonger to build mech-like drones.

This project could not be completed due to a lack of viable energy sources. Stark is considering Arc Reactor technology, but rejects the idea as a pipe dream (in the main timeline, it was possible).

Killmonger thinks vibranium can do just that and sacrifices his heirloom necklace to make it work. Inspired by vibranium, Stark decides to make an appointment with Ulysses Klaue to buy more of the material on the black market. James Rhodes performs the mission on behalf of Tony and that's when everything fell apart.

Black Panther suddenly appears to retrieve the vibranium of his kingdom, but Killmonger overpowers by paralyzing Black Panther with the Sonic Taser, then killing him and Rhodes; at the same time creating a fake scene like Rhodes killed Black Panther. This event shows us the power of the Sonic Taser gun and we can imagine if Kang the Conqueror used an Ultra-Diode ray gun, how he could easily control the Avengers.

Tony Stark's Death

Stark is smart enough to discover the truth, but he fails to control Killmonger at the last minutes and dies under a vibranium spear. Dora Milaje is now blamed on for his death and war breaks out between the United States and Wakanda when two important figures on both sides were killed by the other in fake scenes.

Killmonger goes a step further when he comes to Wakanda to win the King's trust, then helps them defeat an army of robots sent by the United States. Killmonger finally wins the Black Panther status of the late T'Challa.

But maybe Killmonger won't stop there until he takes down the Wakanda Royals for revenge - he's ready to kill T'Challa so what's he hesitant about?

The episode has an open ending to this timeline as Wakanda's Shuri is not fooled by Killmonger and she is working with Pepper Potts in hopes of unmasking Killmonger and preventing the war from escalating.

What If (5): Avengers Became Zombies? 🎥

In the Episode 5 "What If… Zombies?", the  nexus-turning event is  Janet Van Dyne has contracted a zombie virus in the Quantum Realm, and upon returning to Earth, turns almost all humans into zombies, including many of the strongest Avengers. The episode is closely based on the Marvel Zombies comic book series.

While the setting is really dark, this episode is packed with laughter, funny situations and shocking moments, and follows a plot that goes from wild to wild.

The episode's timing is probably at the beginning of the events of The Avengers: Infinity War when Bruce Banner in Hulk form returns to Earth via Bifröst, but this time it's desolate and full of the undead.

Train to Lehight Camp

Endangered by the attack of the Avengers and Thanos zombie army, Bruce is fortunate  enough to be saved by Hope Van Dyne and her ants, and then they gather the surviving heroes including: Spiderman Peter Parker, Bucky Barnes, Okoye , Sharon Carter, Happy Hogan and Kurt. They detect a signal from Camp Lehigh, a SHIELD base of operations, that the survivors there has been successfully developing a method to eliminate the pandemic.

The surviving Avengers make an adventurous journey on a "Train to Busan" style speedboat to Camp Lehigh. But unfortunately, they are attacked by many familiar faces before setting off, and we see a repeat of "Civil War" as the Avengers fight each other, but this time it's different - between the living and the dead.

Wandavision love story of horror at Lehigh Camp

At Camp Lehigh, where they find Vision testing the Mind Stone - supposedly able to cure the zombie virus, and in order to be able to broadcast the frequency of the stone that covers the globe, they must go to Wakanda to obtain the technology needed.

However, it is a horror to discover that at the hands of Vision, Scott and T'Challa are still alive, but to varying degrees: Scott is missing his entire body, and T'Challa is missing a leg. Vision's facility turns out to be a little trap: he's luring people there to turn them into food for his mistress, Zombie Wanda, because Vision can't bear to lose her.

Guilt finally rises in Robot Vision: he peels the Stone from his forehead and gives it to the Avengers, which means it's his death sentence; while Zombie Wanda touchs Vision's lifeless (or offline, more exactly) robot body in pain.

The zombies of this episode are great: they maintain their superpowers, know how to use sophisticated weapons and technology as proficiently as when they were alive. Zombie Wanda even has feelings – perhaps because Vision only partially cured her. This story reminds us of Zombie Queen and King in "Army of the Dead" by Zack Snyder.

What If's Lehigh Camp is actually Wandavision's Westview Town. The difference is that Wanda created Westview to revive Vision, and Vision maintained Lehigh Camp to keep Wanda.

Zombie Thanos is waiting in Wakanda

On their flight to Wakanda, the Avengers raise hopes to save the planet. But as The Watcher puts it, "this could bring about the end of the universe", because in Wakanda, the zombie Thanos with the infinity gauntlet waiting for the Mind Stone to make full set for the blip.
