Mortal Kombat Star to Join the Cast of Shadow and Bone Season 2 📆

Filming for Season 2 of Shadows and Bone officially kicked off mid-January 2022 in Budapest, Hungary. The producer has also announced some new faces in the cast of the series, notably Lewis Tan - who played Cole Young in Mortal Kombat 2021.

Newly announced faces include Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Bataar, Anna Leong Brophy… Tamar Kir-Bataar, Patrick Gibson… Nikolai Lantsov, and Jack Wolfe… Wylan Hendriks.

The introduction of new characters helps readers of the Grishaverse books to anticipate some of the developments in the season 2 of the show, which will basically follow the storyline of  the 2nd book - Siege and Storm.

Lewis Tan ... Tolya Yul-Bataar, Anna Leong Brophy ... Tamar Kir-Bataar

In the books, Tolya and Tamar are Heartrender twins with connections to both Ravka and Shu Han. Their mother was a Grisha stationed near the Shu Han border and their father was a Shu mercenary. Actor Lewis Tan of Asian descent seems to be the ideal choice to portray Tolya's Eurasian mixed origins.

After the death of their mother, the twins moved with their father to Novyi Zem so as not to be drafted into the Ravka Second Army. As such, they are somewhat different from other Grishas: they are both skilled in the use of swords and weapons, and at the same time have Ghrisha powers.

Alina and Mal will likely meet them in season 2 of Shadow and Bone the same way the story unfolds in the books: while at sea searching for another Grisha amplifier, the sea wip Rusalye (Ice Dragon). In the Grisha Universe, there are 3 magic creatures capable of amplifying Grisha's power: the Tag (appeared in Season 1), the Ice Dragon and the Firebird.

Very quickly, Tamar and Tolya swear to Alina, vowing to protect the Sun Summoner in the fight against Shadow Summoner Kirigan Darkling (Ben Barnes).

Patrick Gibson ... Nikolai Lantsov

Meanwhile, Nikolai Lantsov would take on an extremely important role in the main storyline. As the youngest son of the Lantsov royal line, he is determined to end Darkling's reign, remove the Shadow Fold, and bring peace to Ravka. Those are the things that his father -  the current king cannot do effectively.

Nikolai, sometimes referred to as the Sturnhound, did not originally live at the Ravka court but was the leader of a pirate crew. Perhaps during the sea voyage, Alina will meet Nikolai.

In the books, as the youngest prince, Nikolai is later to try to gain political influence and control his royal family in a sophisticated way. The skills Tolya and Tamar possess, especially heart-rendering, are essential to Nikolai's and also Alina's plans.

Another important detail in the novel is that Nikolai also later falls in love with Alina.

Jack Wolfe ... Wylan Hendriks

Shadow and Bone season 1 combined many storylines together, bringing characters from different books to the same screen. The season cleverly modified Alina Starkov's (Jessie Mei Li) story from the books to incorporate the addition of the Crows, who are  originally from another book.

This explains why in season one, the story of Nina Zenik (Danielle Galligan) and Matthias Helvar (Calahan Skogman) seemed out of place in the main storyline. It was not until the last minutes that these two characters accidentally met Alina and Mal on the ship.

Season one introduced five of the six members of the Crows, being Kaz, Jesper, Inej, Nina, and Matthias. Thus, with the introduction of actor Jack Wolfe, season 2 will officially feather the 6th member, Wylan.

Wylan has a knack for breaking/dismantling of buildings , and his skill is needed for a mission to break into the Ice Court to rescue a prisoner, as per a client's order. It's in the novel. In the series, it is possible that the Crows will also break into the Ice Court; but perhaps to serve some plan of Alina.

Basically, what the Shadow and Bone season 2 story will be is still a question. Due to the need to alter the stories to create continuity and logic in the Alina – Crows reunion, Netflix has quite a bit of freedom to fiddle with in the movie adaptation.

Shadow and Bone has received generally positive reviews from critics, with an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an audience rating score of 7.7 out of 10 on Imdb.

According to Netflix's figures, the 2021 series had 55 million viewers in its first 28 days of release, making it the 8th most watched English TV show of all time.

Despite being a villain, Ben Barnes' character, The Darkling - General Kirigan, wins the heart of fans. This role even earned him the IMDb Fan Favorite STARmeter Award.

The British star born in 1981 was briefly a singer in the boyband Hyrise, running to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 with the song "Leading Me On". However, they lost to James Fox with "Hold Onto Our Love".

Later, Ben mainly worked in the field of stage and film. His memorable playing roles include Prince Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia series, Logan Delos in Westworld, Billy Russo in The Punisher and most recently General Kirigan in the Netflix series Shadow and Bone.

Over a number of years, single Ben also composed and recorded a number of albums, mainly for entertainment. The recent songs he composed include 11:11, Rise Up, Ordinary Day which are released on Spotify, Apple Music ... Live versions are also posted on his Youtube channel.

According to unofficial information, the filming for Shadow and Bone Season 2 would begin in January 2022 and last until July. It is expected that the film will be broadcast in early 2023. The producer has set expectations for a series of 5-7 seasons.

KIRIGAN'S AMBITIONS AND SCHEMES

During the journey through the Shadow Fold, Kirigan controls Alina's power to summon just enough light to protect the ship's safety, instead of summoning the full light to remove the darkness. Kirigan makes it clear that the Shadow Fold is his most powerful weapon, and there is no reason for him to have it dismantled. As the ship is about to leave the Fold and reach the West Bank of Ravkan, Kirigan orders Zoya to stop the ship, he summons the dark to widen the Fold, covering the Western Ravkan General and the soldiers waiting outside. In fact, before that, Western Ravkan was intending when the ship crew appeared, they would kill them all. Their main target was Alina. Kirigan seems to have known the plot of Western Ravkan in advance, so he took action first, both to stop the plot and to avenge the previous failed assassination attempt on Alina. Kirigan also wants to show his power to the emissaries from Fjerda and Shu Han to submit to Ravka.

ALINA CHALLENGES KIRIGAN

When Kirigan's intentions are revealed, Zoya, the Crows, and Mal work together to stop the dark from spreading. They simultaneously attack Kirigan and the Grisha entourage towards the goal: freeing Alina so that she could summon the light.

Alina manages to cut the bond mark on Kirigan's hand with a knife, thereby breaking the link between them. She summons the light to stop the expansion of the Fold. In the face of Alina's miraculous power, one fact is now made clear: the Tag chose the person to amplify the power and it was Alina the chosen one, even though it was Kirigan who killed it. Mal and Kirigan fight each other and are thrown off the ship, but Mal makes it back in the end. Zoya lets the ship keep moving to get out of the Fold.

NINA & MATTHIAS

Meanwhile, from the snowy mountains, Matthias and Nina return to the town of Arkesk. They are in Ravka now, which means that Nina is no longer a prisoner, but she has to hide Matthias because he is a hostile Fjerdan. In the motel room, they dream of going somewhere where they can be together, because it can't be neither Ravka nor Fjerda. Sitting in the tavern downstairs, enjoying waffles, Nina and Matthias are interrupted by the Fedyor who knocks Matthias out by putting him on cardiac arrest and demanding Nina to hand him over. Nina had previously overheard men hunting escaped slaves for the bounty. She then shouts that Matthias is a slave who captured her. Bounty hunters swarm over, challenging Fedyor to take away Matthias, and Nina follows them as a witness later.

"SHADOW AND BONE" SEASON 1'S CLIFFHANGERS

Alina, Zoya, Kaz, Jesper, Inej and Mal have arrived safely in Western Ravka and between them some kind of unspoken alliance has just established. Inej promises that she will always be available if Alina needs her help and Jesper promises not to try to kidnap her (again).

Alina gives Kaz an expensive piece of jewelry that she is forced to wear on Kirigan's orders – a precious item that can help Kaz pay off all his debts. Alina wants to destroy the Fold once and for all, but she is not strong enough. Zoya warns Alina that she cannot stay in Ravka. Apparat will take over when the King is ill and will blame Kirigan and Alina for the West Ravka massacre. The best way is to hide, gather forces and regain strength before returning. On the edge of the Shadow Fold, the evil-looking Kirigan suddenly appears, alive, dirty with black blood running through his veins (but still handsome) and mutter, "Follow me", and several giant dark creatures from the Fold step out and follow in his footsteps.

Episode 7 of “Shadow and Bone” - The Unsea recalls the story of Kirigan (then called Darkling) accidentally creating the Shadow Fold with regeneration magic hundreds of years ago. Kirigan successfully uses the Tags's antlers to bind and control Alina's light summoning power.

DARKLING CREATED THE SHADOW FOLD

At that time, in fear of Kirigan's treason, the King sent troops to capture Kirigan and kill his lover, the Healer Luda, despite Kirigan's pleas. Enraged, Kirigan wielded the scythe of darkness and wiped out the King's army.

Knowing that the King would still send more troops to find him, Kirigan decided to read the ancient books of Morozova to find a spell to create his own army to fight. Morozova is Kirigan's grandfather (Bagrah's father), who created 3 creatures capable of amplifying Grisha's power: the Tag, the Firebird and the Ice Dragon (Rusalye or Sea Whip).

Kirigan's intentions were thwarted by his mother Bagrah, who believed that they should only use Small Science instead of Magic, and that the use of merzost would bring about unintended consequences.

When the King's army arrived, Kirigan used spells and regeneration magic to transform the army into creatures under his command. However, the dark energy in Kirigan broke out and turned a large area into the Shadow Fold, also known as Unsea, dividing the Ravka Kingdom into East and West regions.

KIRIGAN AND ALINA's LINK

Back in the present time, Alina and Mal finally reach the Tag's location, but just as they find it, Kirigan and his Grishas also appear. Kirigan wants to kill the Tag to amplify his power, while Alina wanted to protect it.

Because Mal is mortally wounded in the fight, Kirigan uses Mal to force Alina to give up the Tag, and kill it with his own hands. Kirigan then orders David to press the antlers of Tag against Alina's sternum and use magic to bind it to a mark on Kirigan's hand. From here, Kirigan can control Alina's light summoning power.

ALL IN ONE SHIP THROUGH THE DARK WAY

Kaz Brekker later admits to Inej that Alina's light summoning powers are real and not an illusion, and he seems to now forgive for Inej's previous actions of letting Alina go. They try to return to Western Ravka by posing as entourage escorting diplomatic delegations from other countries who visit Ravka for the light summoning performance.

Mal also manages to escape from the barracks. Kirigan forces Alina to go on a ship carrying emissaries leaving Eastern Ravkan through the Shadow Fold.

It looks like all of our main characters will be on this ship.

Kirigan comes to know West Ravka's Independence Scheme

After Alina escapes, Kaz Brekker and Inej argue over her failure to stop Alina. Kaz Brekker believes that Alina's power is an illusion. LOVE FLAME BETWEEN KIRIGAN AND ALINA
