GERATL IS NOT FROM RIVIA

Despite his title, Geralt was not from the city of Rivia. As a child, Geralt was left by his mother, Visenna, to be raised by the keeps at Kaer Morhen Castle in Kaedwen Kingdom.

In order to build credibility to easily win the trust of potential clients, Master Vesemir often encouraged his young witchers to "make up" and polish their own names. Initially, Geralt chose the title "Geralt Roger Eric du Haute-Bellegarde", but this choice was rejected by Vesemir as silly and arrogant. Therefore, his initial title was simply "Geralt".

Later, he chose to add the suffix "of Rivia" - a city of the Kingdom of Lyria located south of the Kingdom of Kaedwen. Geralt even used a Rivian accent to make it appear more authentic.

Later, thanks to his great merit, Queen Meve of Lyria officially knighted him and the title "Giralt of Rivia" was recognized and widely known.
