In Episode 13 of Superman and Lois - "Fail-Safe", after capturing Leslie, General Sam thinks the Earth is safe from the threats from the Kryptonians and plans to get rid of the Kryptonite arsenal (Project 7734), however Superman disagrees with that.

Superman meets Morgan Edge in prison to ask about the whereabouts of the Eradicator, which has mysteriously disappeared after Edge was fired at by Irons. However, Edge does not respond. Through his conversation with Edge, Superman has a feeling that the prospect of him having his mind turned again is entirely possible.

Superman's refusal to dissolve Project 7734 makes Lois very angry. She worries for the safety of Superman and Jordan because the Ministry of Defense can kill them at any time with a single command code. To neutralize the plan, Superman comes to John Henry Irons to ask him to be the gatekeeper of this arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Cushing family falls into an all-out crisis because of the boycott by the SmallVille residents. The fact that Kyle used to campaign to vote for the Morgan Edge Project now makes people turn to blame on him. Kyle is forced to take a break from the fire department for a while, the chief position is assigned to someone else. Mayor George Dean ostensibly wants to help the Cushing family, but behind the curtain he instead tries to blame and undermine them to prepare for his next election.

At the SmallVille Gazette, Chrissy Beppo wants Lois to write a dramatic report on what had just happened involving Morgan Edge, to answer the townspeople's skepticism and doubts. However, General Sam wants Lois to keep many things secret for national security reasons. The fact that Lois refused to write the article makes Chrissy think that Lois was not honest.

About the love stories of two Kent boys. Jordan and Sarah pull each other into a private garden and then kiss, and amid the hot steam of romance they are arrested by the police for trespassing on someone else's property. The two mothers have to go to the police station to bail them home. Tegan Wickhem suggests "dating" Jonathan but it turns out that she just wanted to get some information from him. This makes the boy a little heart-broken.

The end of Episode 13 explains what Edge did to the Eradicator in Episode 12. It seems that Edge has integrated this device into his own body, so after death, Edge will resurrect and his body will become a living Eradicator.

In the prison, Edge self-destructs then incarnates, easily disables the X-Kryptonite engergy field and breaks the prison. Edge flies towards the sun, seemingly to absorb enough energy for an attack of unprecedented scale.
