Geralt finds an annoying but faithful friend, Yennefer realises her true potential, Ciri continues her fleeing …
In Episode 2 of The Witcher, Four Marks, taking a daisy thrown away by a couples, the deformed Yennefer with dark hair and striking violet eyes is wrestled and pushed down on the ground by them, then a surge of energy—something magical, beyond her control takes her far away to another place. She finds herself in a stone chamber lined with skulls.

A young man named Istredd appears and tells her that someone will come for her soon, then he opens a magical portal that Yennefer escapes into it, back to her village.
Soon later a woman named Tissaia de Vries arrives at Yennefer's home and offers to buy a pig for 10 marks, and also buy Yennefer for only 4 marks. Her father agrees, ignoring the protests of her mother on saying that the buyer is a witch. In the sorceress's castle, feeling desperate and undermined after being sold, Yennefer angrily smashes a mirror and uses the broken shards to cut her wrist in order to end the suffering on her own terms.

Meanwhile, as Ciri flees through the woods, Nilfgaardian soldiers search around to recapture her. Being hungry, she plucks a berry from a bush, but struck down by a boy emerging from the trees, who wordlessly warns her that the berries are poisonous. They make a fire, cooking and eating a couple of rats. Then she spots Cintran flags of her people and come for them, but the Rat Boy vanishes.
In Posada, in a tavern, Jaskier a lute-twanging bard makes some performance and is rewarded with only food instead of any money. Then he notices and approaches the white-haired Geralt of Rivia drinking alone in the corner, they make some conversations. A strange man comes to Geralt and asks him to kill a devil stealing his grain. Geralt agrees to the deal and sets off to hunt the devil, and Jaskier decides to tag along, much to his dismay. On the way, Jaskier makes the mistake of referring to Geralt as the Butcher of Blaviken and get a punch in the gut.
In the woods, Ciri finds herself in a camp of Cintran refugees. Hiding her identity being a princess, she is treated with kindness from the people there, but at midnight a Nilfgaardians attack—led by Cahir — kills most of the campers. Ciri manages to escape thanks to the Rat Boy again - an elf called Dara.
In Aretuza , Yennefer is saved from the attempted suicide by Tissaia, the castle turns out to be a magical academy for girls. She is convinced to keep living and take part in magic training a long with some other girls. However, Yennefer fails in most practices while the other girls can do well. Feeling powerless, she crosses a bridge leading to the Tower of Gull where she re-meets Istredd. During their later secret meetings, Istredd explains to her the origins of the Tower of Gull, and Yennefer reveals to him that her real father was half-elf, and died in the Great Cleansing, that’s why she is cursed with a twisted spine.
Geralt and Jaskier travel deeper into Dol Blathanna and finally tracks the 'devil' down—which is actually a sylvan named Torque, he defeats the object but refuses to kill, then asks him to leave. Right at that moment Geralt is suddenly attacked by the sylvan’s allies, beaten to unconsciousness. He and Jaskier are tied together in a cave where they meet Filavandrel, the King of the Elves ("not by choice"). Filavandrel tells them about the Great Cleansing—when humans learned magic from the elves then used it against them, driving them from their homes, and prepares to execute Geralt. But Torque steps in, telling the King how Geralt had spared his life and persuades to let him go.
Back at the Tower of the Gull, in another training to capture lightning in a bottle, Yennefer fails again and in her fury launches a bolt at one of the other students. Tissaia catches it and throws it to safety, declaring that Yennefer can not control her emotions, and asks her to try a test: to obtain a magical flower from Istredd. In Aretuza, Istredd reveals to wizard Stregobor, who seems to be his boss, the screcret about Yennefer's father being a half-elf.
In Dol Blathanna, after giving the coins he earned for slaying the 'devil' to Torque, Geralt and Jaskier ride away with Jaskier singing a new song …
